of the

Kampot International Tourist Pier

GMS tourism infrastructure for inclusive growth (GMS TIIG No.3194-CAM)

08th August 2018, Kampot Province

————————

Under the energetic and positive leadership of H.E Dr. Thong Khon, Minister for Tourism and along with the cooperation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and ADB, the Royal Government of Cambodia has received a loan from ADB to implement the “Greater Mekong Sub-region Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project” (GMS TIIG No.3194-CAM). The project is being implemented in the three coastal provinces of Kep, Kampot and Koh Kong. However, Kampot is where the most significant infrastructure investment is being made with the construction of an international tourism sea port and pier in a 4-hectare area in Chum Kreal village, Chum Kreal commune, Toek Chhou district, Kampot province.

The ground breaking ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister for Tourism, and Chairman of the Tourism Development Committee and H,E. Chea Tay, the Governor of Kampot Province and Chairman of the Tourism Development and Management Committee. Once the construction is completed, the new port will become a new international gateway to facilitate inward and outbound travel to and from Cambodia. The port infrastructure and arriving cruise ships will significantly boost tourist arrivals who will visit the many attractions along the southern coastal corridor.  This type of infrastructure will ensure that Cambodia will achieve its target to attract 14 million tourists by 20130, of which 6 million will be international arrivals.

The construction contract for the Kampot international tourism pier project was awarded to SBPH Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd which was the lowest bidder at a cost of US $8,483,439.83. The project’s engineering supervision and design contract was awarded to Cambodian company SBK Research and Development Co. Ltd. The project is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2020.
