The Ground-breaking Ceremony of the Construction
of the Keb Crab Market

On 21 November 2017, a ground-breaking ceremony was held at the Keb CrabMarket in Keb Province to formally new works that will deliver environmentalimprovements to business, vendors and the many tourists that visit the market each week to enjoy Keb’s local premium seafood.

The “Greater Mekong SubregionTourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project” (GMS TIIG No.3194-CAM) is funded by ADB, administered by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and implemented by the Ministry of Tourism. The project is implementing environmental improvements to the famous Keb Crab Market that include a much-needed waste water treatment plant, renovation of storm water drains, extensive paving, a visitor information center and public restroom facilities.

H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister for Tourism and H.E. Ken Setha, Keb Provincial Governor (attended) presided over and ceremoniously cut the red ribbon in the presence of more than 200 people from Keb province. The construction program is scheduled for completion end of August 2018 when local business will be connected to the main pipeline which leads to the treatment works being built on reclaimed land to the west of the current market infrastructure. This type of infrastructure will ensure that Keb’s infrastructure standards continue to improve to cater for 3 million tourists by 2030, of which 0.5 million will be international arrivals.

The construction contract for the Keb Crab Market was awarded to Khmer Décor Construction Company Ltd. as the lowest bidder at a cost of USD $954,923.90 on 15 November 2017. The project’s engineering supervision and design company, SBK Research and Development Co. Ltd, is responsible for overseeing the works contract.
